The John H. Huffines Agency was opened in 1895 by John H. Huffines and renamed The Powell Agency by Miss Laura Powell when she bought it in 1918. E. Stuart Powell, Miss Laura's nephew, joined the Agency in 1929, and his son E. Stuart Powell, Jr. took over active management in 1976. He purchased the Agency from his mother Margaret Powell in 1976.

Donald T. Barefoot purchased the the Powell Agency in 1995, and it was renamed Powell Barefoot Agency, Inc. Don began his insurance career in 1967 as a claims adjuster with United States Fidelity and Guaranty in Raleigh, NC. He moved to Reidsville in 1971 as an agent with Nichols & Stanley and purchased The Grady Gregory Agency in 1977 and the Pink M. Hooper Agency in 1982. Don is President of the Agency and has a wealth of knowledge in all aspects of insurance gained through forty-one years of insurance experience.

Mary B. McCollum worked with the Agency for many years as Office Manager until her retirement.

Paul Drew Barefoot, AAI, is the son of Donald T. Barefoot and was employed by the Agency in August 1996. He was promoted to Vice President in 1999 and has charge of all inside operations. Drew specializes in life, health, and long-term care insurance needs.

Tracy Crowder joined the agency in 1999 as an Agent and Customer Service Representative. Tracy excels in custome care and personal lines service.
